My background in historic buildings and theatrical imagery show in the series of intricate and fantastic landscapes I am working on. These are worked out initially in fine pencil and then reproduced in pen and ink. The intention is that they will also be produced as etchings, which will suit the style and content. Each landscape has elements inspired by real places but then takes off in unforseen directions as I work on it. These landscapes are worked on over a long period of time immersing myself in and producing a small area at a time. Look at the detail and you will see that theoretically there is a logic to it all and it could almost work. The first in the series is the island. Its shape was inspired by a picture of an amazing boat shaped temple island festooned with flags but after that it is all fantasy. The second is a water labyrinth beside a tower topped rugged hill and cavern inspired by the landscape round Castleton.
